Youth play a unique and important policy advocacy role that contributes to an effective, comprehensive tobacco control program. The initiation of and addiction to tobacco often occurs before young people are legally able to buy tobacco products – an age when they are also highly targeted by the tobacco industry.
Because they are targets, young people must be engaged in tobacco control efforts. Youth are powerful allies in the fight against pro-tobacco influences, key partners in denormalizing tobacco use, and important levers in determining the future of tobacco control policy.
